Mr. Bruni is a partner in the Pittsburgh Office of Swartz Campbell where he dedicates the majority of his practice to representing product manufacturers and industrial contractors in the defense of toxic-tort related claims. Mr. Bruni began his legal career in Canton, Ohio in 1990 when he worked for a mid-sized defense firm handling workers' compensation and subrogation related claims. In 1992, he returned to Pittsburgh and began representing large industrial entities in both private and governmental related cost recovery actions. Since the mid 1990’s, Mr. Bruni has focused his practice in the area of defending toxic tort claims, and has represented numerous types of product manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and premises defendants in connection with asbestos, silica and benzene litigation.
In connection with this work, Mr. Bruni was responsible for developing and implementing an aggressive defense plan for a mechanical contractor that eventually led to their dismissal from more than 1,000 asbestos related claims in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Bruni, who is licensed to practice in Ohio, managed the defense of both product manufacturers and contractor related defendants who were sued in over 10,000 cases in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Last year, Mr. Bruni was retained to serve as counsel for a large construction company who has been sued by thousands of individuals in connection with work it performed in association with clean-up/debris removal at the World Trade Center following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Mr. Bruni is a 1990 Graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a 1987 Graduate of Grove City College. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Ohio bar associations and a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Pennsylvania Defense Institute. In November of 2006, Mr. Bruni was invited to speak at the 2006 DRI Asbestos Conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Bruni addressed the attendees on increased efforts by defendants to obtain discovery of claim related information from asbestos bankruptcy trusts.
Mr. Bruni is also a former high school basketball coach and has served as an officer in various youth sports programs in the Western Pennsylvania area including the Youth Sports Alliance and the Mt. Lebanon Baseball Association.
