Footnote on Dewey & LeBoeuf Debacle

/ 14.Mar, 2014

Last week we posted about the indictments arising out of the disintegration of Dewey & LeBoeuf.  The New York Times just ran a very interesting article on Zachary Warren, one of the four former Dewey & LeBoeuf employees indicted.   The Times reports Warren, a 29 year old, who was hired by Dewey & LeBoeuf to collect client debts before he went to law school, believed he was being questioned as part of a civil SEC investigation, and did not realize he was the target of a criminal investigation.  Warren attended the questioning without an attorney.  The article is a very interesting read into the investigation, and highlights the necessity of lawyers always paying attention to the potential pitfalls involved in attending questioning of any sort, whether it be an investigation or a deposition, without counsel of their own.
